For this assignment, you will read a chapter in Handbook of Middle English Studies that interests you. Each student will select her own approach.
For the presentation, you will present a summary of the ideas in the chapter to the class for approximately 5-10 minutes. You can provide handouts, visual aids, what you will to ensure the clarity of your presentation. Be prepared as well to entertain questions and discussion from the class. Assume that the students are not familiar with this approach, so it will be necessary to be introductory in your presentation.
For the paper, apply your method to any of Chaucer's works that we've read. I also strongly recommend that you also read one of the secondary works listed at the end of your essay. That can give you a glimpse into how other professional scholars apply theoretical approaches to their readings of medieval works.
This paper should be written for a member of this class who has some familiarity with Chaucer.
Length: 4-6 pages. It is okay if you write more.
When you quote Chaucer, be sure to quote in Middle English.
